What You Have to Get From 2020 Mazda CX-5
So on the signature model you’re probably wondering what special do you get um and you do get some special things, though most of what mazda has done is really on the inside. So up in the front here you are going to have the same signature, mazda grill as the other trim levels.
So, unlike with the mazda6, where you have a metallic finish for the signature trim, this one does still have the same finish as the lower trim line levels. That being said, of course, you have got the same chrome that accents around it, and then you also have the full led headlights with the fanciest arrangement.
It’s, going to be full, led both your low and high beams, as well as your daytime running light. However, the turn signal will still be incandescent, and these do also have adaptive abilities and finally, down here at the bottom, you have really small but really bright, full led fog lights.
Now, the next detail of these 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature design are your wheels. These are going to be 19-inch alloys and they do actually have the same design as far as the spokes with the other trim levels. But we do have a special dark gray finish that’s exclusive to the signature.
Then, as far as your mirrors, of course, this is going to come with the full gamut of options, so we have body color, heating and power folding plus we have standard blind spot monitoring located right here in the mirror.
Most of this tail light is led. The turn signal is incandescent, but the rest of it is a really premium, led, look and then dropping down. We do have dual exposed exhaust outlets and they do have the chrome tipping now.
Mazda also has updated the safety systems for 2020, since their iactive safety sense. Suite is now standard across the entire lineup, so that means that all of them are going to have all of the advanced safety systems.
You’ll, be looking for, like auto high beam headlamps adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist as well as ford emergency. Braking well guys that’s, going to be it for this 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature exterior but like drew said in the front, there are more changes in the inside.
Key fob that has a nice classy look and you have got the buttons down here on the side now to get inside the vehicle itself. There is not a sensor behind the handle on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature, yet so you just have to press the black button and when you do, the mirrors will electrically fold out now taking a first peek inside of this signature.
You can immediately tell there are definitely some special touches around this cabin. The biggest special touch, though, are these napa leather seats that’s right. They’re nappa leather, so that’s, one of the finest grades of leather. With a nice double color contrast, stitching detail. This is all leather all through here, as well as along the top, with some more color contrast stitching now on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature.
You will also notice we have the genuine layered wood trim. This is the only model to have that and then down below here we have four fully automatic windows: heading down here to your seats. These are your eight-way power adjusting seats with two-way lumbar support, the buttons here finished and metal, and then, of course, we have standard two-person memory.
Seating now, like i was already mentioning. These are napa leather seats and boy. Are they nice? These are absolutely beautiful seats in the way that they look and the way that they feel very soft and supple leather, as you know, probably from our past mazda cx-5 reviews, the cabin materials inside of this model are very nice on all the trim levels.
However, on these signature, things are taken up another notch, so across your upper dash, you’re still going to have a soft touch plastic all through here, dropping down to your middle layer. This is all finished in a nice leatherette material with some stitching.
Like i already mentioned at the door trim portion, we have the genuine wood trim here on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature model. All these areas are going to be soft touch and then finally down here at the bottom, we have another big patch of leather that runs through here for your knee to rest against and everything does fit together extremely well now, to start it up.
Just put your foot on the brake and press the standard button. So as you would expect for the fully loaded signature model, you do have the premium gauge cluster setup. Now it’s, not even immediately noticeable, but this center part here is a seven inch display.
You can use this little info button right here to cycle through several different types of information right there in the middle portion. Now, in addition to that, we also have a head out display. It’s a little bit hard to see today, but this is a really nice head up display.
I really enjoyed using this over the last week, particularly because it shows your blind spot information up there in the display, in addition to in the mirrors, so it definitely helps when driving on the highway. Now, coming back to the steering wheel itself, we of course have electric power assisted, steering and a nice leather wrapped steering wheel.
More premium look, and i definitely like the leather quality on the wheel itself. Now it is manually adjusting and you also find standard heating. As far as your wipers, these are going to be rain sensing across the entire cx-5 lineup all right. So now let’s, go ahead and move on to interior storage. Now the cx-5 is not the most spacious in the class, but you do have plenty of storage still so up top here we have a small tray.
We can get our big stack of coupons inside. You just have to fold them in half and then they’ll fit in there just fine. You also have two usb ports and a 12 volt outlet up in front of that. We have two large cup holders and then the very front. Here we have a large bin um, and inside of this you have another 12 volt outlet.
If you want to do some manual shifting and here on the signature trim, we do have paddle shifters. Now when we go into reverse, you will find one of the other signature exclusive features and that’s, going to be a 360 degree. Camera system with both front and rear parking sensors. Now, for whatever reason it does default to just the back view when you go into reverse, but you just press down on the controller knob one time and that will switch it to the mixed view.
Where you have your 360 view and your regular view now that’s, one of my complaints about it – i don’t – know why it doesn’t default to the 360 view, and also the resolution could certainly use an Upgrade it’s, it’s, pretty low resolution and when you’re in that standard view, you also don’t, have active trajectory and then back behind the shifter.
You have your electronic parking brake and your auto brake hold off to the side of that. We have our mazda control knob. You use this knob. Most of the time, though, you can use the screen as a touch display. If you’re under 5 miles per hour and then off to the side here we have our audio controls. Of course, with the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature model, you are going to have the best audio setup, that’s, a 10 speaker bose center point.
Sound system, so we’ll, go ahead and take a sample of that overall, sound quality is excellent. One of the best i’ve heard in this class, and we certainly enjoyed it over the past week, all right. So now let’s, go ahead and move on up the dashboard a bit now, obviously, what you’re looking at here is your standard dual zone, automatic climate control setup.
It’s very simple. To use. You just have two big knobs for both the driver and your passenger, and you have physical buttons for all the other functions located conveniently right there. You also notice here on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature. We have three stage heated seats, but we also have three stage ventilated seats, which is something that several in the segment still don’t offer okay, so now up here at the top, this is actually one of our 2020 changes.
Uh. What you’re looking at is the eight inch display this is previously seven inches, but for 2020 on the upper trim levels. You now have an eight inch display. However, this is still running the older style, mazda connect system. However, this specific tester does not have the sd card installed and then off in your applications.
This is where you will, find both apple carplay and android, auto onboard. So, even though this system is a little bit on this lower end and on the lower tech end over the past week, we’ve, mostly used apple, carplay and android auto.
So it’s, really not something that has bothered us too badly. Now moving on up, we have the signature exclusive frameless, auto dimming mirror. So you can see this looks a little bit classier. We have our homelink universal remotes down on the bottom of it and then finally, up here at the top, you will find a standard moon roof.
Of course, here on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature trim just be aware that you cannot get a panoramic moon roof like you can on some of the rivals. Now i’m, starting this rear seat with the door open, because i do want to point out something that we noticed over our seven days with the vehicle and especially on our road trip.
As you can see, this rear door opens a lot wider than most vehicles in this class. Is i swear? It’s, probably like 85 degrees. It’s almost a 90 degree angle, which is something a lot in this class. Don’t offer and it does make getting in and out a lot easier, as well as loading stuff in the rear.
Now, as far as the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature rear seat itself, you kind of have to remind yourself that you’re, not in a luxury vehicle, because this is a really really nice place to spend time now in the center, we are going to have standard vents As you would expect on the signature and then if we drop down the armrest, you’re, also going to find cupholders as well as your standard, three-stage heated, rear seats.
If you open this up, you will also have a felt-lined storage area with two charging usbs. So this is really a lot more features than most in the class will give you and then, as far as the space itself, it’s, going to be 40 inches of your leg, room 39 inches of your headroom, which does place it a tad Below like stuff like the honda crv, but it’s, really very class competitive and behind your sitting position i have, i would say, five to six inches of your leg room and my feet can easily slide up underneath the seat.
So, overall, this is definitely a very comfortable place for your entire family to spend time now walking up to this cx-5 tailgate. It is going to be power, as you would expect out of the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature. However, i do want to point out that there is no hands-free option offered on the cx-5, so that would have been nice to see.
But that said when you open it up, you’re, going to find 31 cubic feet of space behind the second row seats. If you fold them, it goes to 60 cubic feet that does place it a little bit less than some of the main rivals like the toyota RAV4, as well as the Honda CR-V. However, you know overall road trip. We packed quite a bit of different things and it fits just fine in the back. So i doubt most owners are going to really notice that space difference between some of the rivals.
Now, as far as how mazda has finished it back here, we do have a nice carpeting along the floor and if you lift it up, you do have a spare tire up under, and i do also want to point out that the seats do fold.
40. 20. 40 split, as opposed to the 60, 40 split and most of the rivals, so that does give you a little bit more functionality as far as hauling people, as well as hauling things now. As far as your passenger seat on the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature model, it is going to be six-way power adjusting and then, as far as the glove box, it is really nicely dampened.
However, it is a little bit narrower than some of the competition. That said here’s, our coupons, we can see if we can fit them in here and they do fit just fine without even having to fold them. So we can fit quite a big stack in here and then up top.
We do also have a sun visor with a mirror, an led light and we can also detach it and it does have an extension in the end [ Music ], and there is 60 miles an hour in the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature.
So you can probably tell from that acceleration what engine this vehicle has, since it is a top trim. The gt reserve and the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature are going to get that turbo engine, and i have to say that first acceleration. This does not feel like anything in this entire segment, because, mainly you know, this segment is pretty slow and this is definitely not slow um.
As far as your power figures, 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature, going to be 250 horsepower and 320 pound feet of torque lots and lots of torque. And if you don’t put premium fuel in it’s, going to go down to 227 horsepower 310 pound feet of torque, but obviously that’s plenty of power either way i mean. If, if you close your eyes, i’ve, been thinking about that this week.
If you close your eyes, you probably think you were in a german luxury crossover taking off there um. You know just that’s kind of the caliber that it feels like you know something like an audi q5 as far as power is concerned, and that’s very uncharacteristic for this class of vehicle.
We actually spent seven days with a honda crv, and you know there’s. Nothing specifically wrong with that. But that’s, what this competes with, and this is going to give you that turbo engine at that same price point and it’s a lot faster and it really just helps overall living with the vehicle.
You know during this trip, as we mentioned throughout, we took it on a pretty extensive road trip around six hours and just merging onto freeways and stuff. You need that additional power and that’s, that’s. Definitely where the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature shines. You can hear the turbo a little bit too. I mean name a vehicle in this segment that can actually make you smile when you, you know really throw it down very, very impressive now.
I do also want to mention here the transmission it’s. Going to have a six-speed automatic transmission, which is yeah that’s, a talking point because most in the class will have at least an eight-speed automatic, but it does not have a cvt so stuff, like the honda.
CR-V has a cbt and nissan rogue too, so a lot of a lot of them in this segment have a cvt. So this is definitely a more uh good driving experience, because you do have that more traditional setup, yeah it’s, just going to be a matter of what what you prefer more or less.
You know, i feel, like a lot of people are going to prefer the 6-speed automatic to continuously variable transmission. As far as the performance over the week there’s, nothing wrong with it. You know so you don’t. It doesn’t seem like it’s, searching for gears or lacking in any way. Really it’s. Just of course, you’ve got two less gears than something like a rav4, but it’s, not really a big deal nice and smooth overall yeah, and it’s.
Also worth mentioning that this 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signaturetrim does come standard with all-wheel drive um, which is really a great thing, especially since you have that much torque being put down on the ground um. You know it’s, something that the mazda6 turbo i for those of you follow the channel.
We’re. Looking at you know possibly getting a mazda, 6 turbo and you know just has front wheel drive, so this actually puts the power down a lot better than the mazda6 turbo right. But now it’s time to talk about what really sets the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature.
Apart and what is probably you know like the most standout feature, and that is the way this thing drives. Wow mazda did not forget about driving dynamics just because this is a crossover, nor did they dial it back, because this is the luxury 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature trim.
This thing drives phenomenally and i mean phenomenally. We’ve, been comparing it throughout this video to german luxury crossovers, and i’m just gonna, say honestly. This drives as good actually better than something like a q5.
This is a real driver’s choice. As far as crossovers is concerned, you can probably tell we’re going. We’re going around some of those corners there’s like no body roll whatsoever. I mean it’s like it’s, a weird sensation, almost for a crossover, because you can just corner this thing, and actually you’re having a blast because you’re just staying so flat.
The steering is really got a lot of half to it and has phenomenal feel to it. You get a lot of feedback, you can really tell where the wheels are placed. Obviously, most things are just really focused on you know, being a family vehicle and whatnot and they have got really light. Numb steering you know bad driving dynamics, but this here just shows that it can be done and you can do it without sacrificing comfort, yeah and hands down that’s. Just going to be today’s.
You know they have, really nailed so many aspects of this vehicle that are just super impressive, but there are some aspects that are showing their age at this point and that’s going to be the technology.
We both agree this system here it’s, not their newest system. Another new system is a lot better, but we don’t have the new system here in the cx-5 yet so this is the old style system. The graphics are not that good the performance is slow, especially on startup.
You often find yourself trying to make an adjustment to something and it’s still lagging and still trying to get booted up. We’ve had some different issues throughout the week with bluetooth, android, auto um and the backup camera, which i mentioned in the main review, is really low.
Now, throughout the last seven days, we have driven 525 miles and right now in the car we’re averaging 24 miles per gallon throughout that whole driving experience. A lot of that was on the highway. This is rated 27 on the highway and we were getting about 26 on the highway and then, as you can see, we’re, actually matching the epa rating overall this week and we’re, of course, not being easy on it.
