You will continue to find these 19-inch alloys across most of the trim levels, just with different finishes so on the grand touring trim levels.
Like you see here, this is the brilliant silver finish. If you choose the signature, you have a dark gray finish and then that new carbon edition has the same wheels but finished in a gloss black and then. Finally, if you choose the lower two trim levels, those are gonna have 17 inch alloys and, as far as your mirrors are concerned, you are going to find standard blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert.
You’ll, have heating on the grand touring and above and then power folding on the grand touring reserve and above now the front of the cx-5 looks good and also here in the rear. It really has a very premium and upscale look, especially when you compare it to some of the rivals that this 2021 Mazda CX-5 goes up against now, breaking down the individual design elements, nothing has changed for 2021, so you’re, going to continue to still have These premium led tail lights.
These are going to come on all but the lower all, but the base 2 trims and they’re, going to have an led brake light, as well as an led, reverse light. However, the turn signal is incandescent. Dropping down. We do have this nice black trim around the diffuser area and you’re, also going to have standard dual chrome exhaust tip outlets on all of the cx-5s.
Now i did forget to mention new for 2021 is a turbo badge on the back of the 2021 Mazda CX-5, so now you can tell which ones have that nice turbo engine under the hood, but moving on to these safety systems, 2021 Mazda CX-5, going to continue to kill it here because you have their entire suite standard across all the trim levels, that’ll, be your advanced stuff like adaptive cruise control, auto high beam headlamps as well as ford emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
This is not a full refresh, but there are some important interior changes, namely that right up there on the dashboard, but before we get into that, let’s. First, talk about your different interior, color and material options, so, starting on your base, sport trim that’s, going to come with cloth, seating and black. Only the touring has leatherette seating and black or silk, and then the brand new carbon edition that’s, going to have real leather in black or a special red color.
Now the grand touring and the 2021 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring reserve that’s, also going to have real leather in black or parchment and then, finally, when you go up to the signature, trim that’s, where you unlock fine nappa leather in the exclusive Katura brown color now turning over here to the door trim of this gt reserve. You are going to find really nice materials.
You have a padded leather rep material across the armrest, with the brown color contrast stitching up top is padded as well with more stitching, and we have a faux wood accent as far as your windows, all four are going to be one touch auto up and down. Then, coming down here to the seats themselves, you will find an eight-way power adjusting seat with two-way lumbar support across the grand touring models and above and those also throw in the two-stage memory up top here, like i said, we have the real leather seating.
Again, you find the brown color contrast stitching and the perforation, which really makes for a nice rich look. Now, of course, one of the things that we’ve, always loved about this 2021 Mazda CX-5 since it first came out, is the quality of the cabin, and that does remain, thankfully unchanged for so across your upper dash.
All this is going still going to be a soft touch plastic below that we have a leatherette material with the color contrast, stitching detail and then right here. We also have some of the faux wood trim below that we have more padding and then, if you choose the grand touring and above this, is where you ‘ll. Have this leather padding right here against the center console for your knee to rest against and everything does continue to fit together. Very well, now start up, every 2021 Mazda CX-5 just put your foot on the brake and press the button.
So, as far as the gauges are concerned, they are identical to last year, so you ‘ill have two different setups. If you choose to have the grand touring or above that’s, where you’ll get this premium 7 inch reconfigurable gauge cluster right there in the middle, and you can use the little info button on the steering wheel to cycle through Several different kinds of information now, in addition to that, we also have the projection style head up display, and this is included on the gt reserve and the signature now coming back to the steering wheel.
Mazda does nicely include this leather wrapped steering wheel on all the models. Even the base, one and mazda is probably the only mainstream brand that does this, but they also include rain sensing wipers on even the base model. Now, as far as the wheel itself, it is going to be manual tilt and telescoping, and then heating begins on this gt reserve.
This is going to be included as well on the carbon edition and above um, but it does continue to be the standard size unit. Mazda has not added a panoramic option so getting back in the cx-5s rear seat. This, of course, is a very, very important part of any family cuv and the 2021 Mazda CX-5 does a really good job back here now. As far as your leg room figures, you’re, looking at 40 inches of your leg, room 39 inches of your headroom, which just place it above, the toyota rav4.
However, it is still less than the honda crv so really very competitive within the segment behind roof. Seating position. I will say there’s, not as much space as i would expect. So i’m. Looking at around, i’d, say four inches of your leg room, but my feet can certainly slide up underneath the seat, since they’re sitting really tall and off the ground.
Now, as far as your features set here in the center, you’re, actually going to have vents on all but the very base sport model. And then, if we fold down the center armrest, you’re, going to find more features. In here, so this grand touring reserve is going to come standard with three-stage heated, rear seats. It’s also on the signature.
Every time i get behind the wheel of one of these things, i am impressed by the power uh it. It just feels so much quicker than you expect that it’s gonna be especially straight from the line with all that torque. So obviously, as you can tell from behind the wheel here, this is the turbo model uh. So it’s, a two and a half liter turbocharged, four cylinder: 250 horsepower 320 pound feet of torque.
So really really nice power numbers, especially for the class which many rivals, don’t offer an upgraded engine at all yeah and they’re under 200 horsepower yeah and we’ve spent pretty significant time. If you remember, if you’re a subscriber of the channel, we had a cx-5 signature loaner for seven days, and i can tell you this engine certainly impresses.
So if you’re concerned about the engine at all, i would highly suggest going for the turbo that’s, going to be standard on the grand touring reserve and signature and new for 2021 that new carbon edition you can pay extra And get the turbo in the carbon edition, which means that that is now the cheapest price point to get the turbo, so it’s more accessible than ever this year.
Yeah! Now, if you go for the more basic trim levels, that’s, going to be a two and a half liter four-cylinder engine 187 horsepower 186 pound-feet of torque very competitive numbers still for those base engines. But it’s, just not as driver focused as the turbo engine. Of course yeah. I love how the power is just accessible all the time.
As soon as you put your foot down it’s got you covered uh. So as far as the transmission, it does continue to have the same six-speed automatic transmission um, as you just saw me, demonstrate though this is not a bad transmission, even though it is down a few gears from the competition. When you put your foot down, it is nice and responsive um. Shifting is smooth. I don’t. Think you’re, really going to be bothered by the fact that it’s a six-speed instead of an eight-speed, for example, and it’s – probably a pro compared to a continuously variable transmission.
Mazda listening to its customers as well as us about some of the issues with the cx-5. However, today’s, um air ball is still going to be there’s. A few features missing so like the hands-free power trunk in the back and the pano roof option that’s, just a few things that the competition definitely has, and this does not now let’s, go ahead and talk about the fuel Economy for the cx-5, so with the 2.5 liter engine the base, one, not the turbo uh with front wheel, drive it’s, going to be rated at 25 city 31 Highway 28 combined.
If you opt for all-wheel drive that reduces it down to 26., then if you go for the turbo engine, it’s, going to be 25 combined with front wheel, drive and 24 combined with all-wheel drive, and it’s worth noting that That turbo was previously only all-wheel drive, but now that you can get the carbon edition with front wheel drive with the turbo, that is, that new fuel economy figure and as far as the pricing is concerned, you’re, going to be pleasantly surprised.
How much the 2021 Mazda CX-5 Price?
They really don’t increase it much for 2021 Mazda CX-5. It’s about 200 extra um, so the sport’s, going to start $25,270, Touring, $27.00. Carbon edition continues to be a steal at $28.850, the turbo, adds $800. If you wan na, opt for that grand touring, $34.600. You’re, not going to get better driving dynamics in a compact crossover than this right here. So you definitely should check out the cx-5.
But even if you’re, not interested in driving dynamics, you get so much for you know, bang! For the buck, and then mazda is continually refining everything, even things like the technology, which is something we’ve previously complained about now rectified, and you know just makes it a better pick than ever.
