2021 Subaru Crosstrek – So subaru has one of the most extensive lineups of crossovers in the entire auto industry, offering a size for every need in the smallest and most affordable slot. Is this crosstrek, which has gotten an extensive refresh this year with new styling, more features and, most importantly, increased power under the hood, but without wasting any more time?
What You Have to Get From 2021 Subaru Crosstrek
This 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has gotten, all right so like most subaru refreshes as well as redesigns. The changes are pretty subtle, but when i point them out to you, you will, probably be able to tell the difference. So we want to start out with the face. This is the biggest change as far as the design goes, so you have a little bit of a smaller fascia this year. It’s. Also a little bit rounder and this chrome accent in the middle has been updated down on the bottom.
The lower fascia has also changed. What subaru did was expand. This rugged black trim up a little bit higher on the model to make it look a little bit more rugged now, as far as that, new sport trim level that they’ve added this year. That does have a few styling tweaks from this. The biggest one is that the housing around the fog light, as well as around the wheel wells, those are thicker on the sport trim level. Now coming over here to your lighting here on this, this limited trim level.
We have the full led adaptive lighting. It is exclusive to the limited trim level, the other models have halogen lighting and then down below you will find fog lights on all, but the very base trim level, but they’ll only be led. If you have the limited turn now to go along with that refreshed front, end 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has refreshed the wheel lineup as well, and i do like that they include a standard 17-inch alloy, even on the base trim level with a nice contrast design.
Now, if you choose the new sport trim level that comes with the same alloy, but with a full black design and then finally, up here on the limited we have these really cool 18-inch alloys. Obviously it does have a contrast design, but when you see it moving down the road, it really just looks super distinct, especially from the other 2021 Subaru Crosstrek models and then, as far as your mirrors, you are going to have heating on all, but the very base trim level.
However, blind spot monitoring is standard only on this limited, though it is available as an option on those lower end trim levels, if you prefer and finally, for that sport trim level, you will have an exclusive gun metal cap now out back this 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has changed The design ever so slightly, you have to have a really really fine eye for this to kind of see the differences, but 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has made a few now as far as your taillights is, there are a slightly more sculpted design.
Now color me impressed for how subaru has set up these safety systems since you are going to have their isight suite standard across all of the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek models, even that base one. If you opt for that cvt that’s going to include even the most advanced systems like lane keeping assist and for 2021, it includes adaptive, advanced adaptive crews with lane centering.
Additionally, if you go for the sport or the limited trims, you will have auto high beams as well as rear, auto braking on the limited. So, as you can see, 2021 Subaru Crosstrek hasn’t changed a ton with the exterior design, but i didn’t really think they needed to.
You’re, not going to notice a huge number of changes, but of course there are some little details which i’ll point out as i go through the video now. One of those updates is that you have more color and material options than ever before, so your base and premium trims, those will continue to come with cloth, seating and your choice of black or gray color schemes.
However, the new sport trim that comes with what is called startex and that is actually a water resistant material and it comes in a special gray color, with yellow contrast, stitching as well as embroidery. Now, when you get up to this limited model, that’s, where you get real leather and you have the choice between black or this gray and black combination with the orange stitching, which i think looks fantastic now turning over here to your door trim.
You will see those same materials reflected up here, so we have a black leather with the orange stitching. We have perforated gray leather through here, and the top part is also soft touch and we have a faux carbon fiber trim. As far as your windows, they’re gonna, be one touch auto up and down for the driver and the passenger heading down here to your seats.
These are the six-way power adjusting seats. They’re standard on limited only uh. You will not have uh lumbar support, though, and then, like i was already mentioning this seat. Design really is impressively upscale. Looking and feeling like. I said it is real leather. We have perforations with the orange accents behind it, as well as the color contrast stitching, and it is two-tone. So really it just looks so much more upscale than you would expect at this price point now.
Now on the sport and the top and limited you have push button start so right in front of the driver. You’ll, find the premium gauge cluster setup on sport and limited models with the 4.2 inch multi-function display right there in the middle. Now this display. This is used mostly for like basic trip information.
However, on the limited trim, we have an additional 6.3 inch helper display, and this has the more detailed multi-function information, including, as you can see, safety systems, off-road information, different things you can even get to weather. If you want so there’s. A lot of information in this helper display now heading back to the steering wheel.
You also will find two charging usbs and a 12 volt outlet on side. I do like that it’s longer here on the driver’s side now over here you’ve got your cup holders and up in the very front you’ll notice, another really nicely sized bin with A rubber lining that also has two more usbs an aux jack and a 12-volt outlet, so you’re gonna have a lot of different connections inside of this crosstalk.
The other thing back here i want to point out – is your x mode button and also the fact that we have heated seats, and these are now standard in 2021 on the premium trim and up so all, but the very base model, and this used to be Reserved for just this limited trim so that’s, definitely a nice change and heading up to our main climate controls.
This is actually a single zone, automatic setup and it is standard across all of the trim levels, which is nice for the price point. Now, when you make the adjustments, they do show up up in that helper display at the top, and everything is physically located right here now, above that you have a lot of audio controls as well as shortcuts for the infotainment system.
So 2021 Subaru Crosstrek remains pretty much the same as last year, so you still will have a six and a half inch display on your base and your premium trims and eight inch display on this limited as well as that new sport trim as an option now limited, can Also add optional navigation. We don’t have that on this specific example, because we haven’t added that option package.
But most importantly, though, is that android, auto and apple carplay, those are included on all the trim levels, regardless of what screen size you end up with now. Jumping up to the top. Here we’ve got an auto dimming, mirror with three homemake universal remotes and a compass that is optional across all of the trim levels and then up at the very top you’ll notice.
2021 Subaru Crosstrek specific example actually does not have a moon roof that’s, because a moon roof is not standard on any of the trim levels, but it is available as an option on premium sport and limited alrighty so sitting in the crosstrex rear seat. I’ve, always really been quite impressed with this rear area, because it has a lot of space and a lot of comfort. So you’re, going to come in at 37, inches of rear leg, room 38 inches of your headroom, which is pretty class competitive.
It’s really thick as a light, as well as a mirror, and it does also detach and have an extension in the end, all right. So what you are hearing is the new engine. We’ve, been hinting about it all throughout the review, but we have a new engine, which is probably the biggest complaint. I think that people had about the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek was just that it was a kind of weak, but subaru is throwing in a new engine for the sport trim as well as this limited trim and it’s, the same one from the bigger forester.
So it’s, a two and a half liter boxer four-cylinder engine 182 horsepower 176 pound-feet of torque, which is a pretty substantial improvement over that base engine yeah and if you’re curious about the base engine, that’s. A two liter uh four-cylinder 152 horsepower 145 pound-feet of torque. So, like you said that’s, pretty significant power boost, and i can definitely feel that we’ve, been in this 2021 Subaru Crosstrek many times, and you know when you throw her down.
It definitely doesn’t feel like what this segment normally does it soaks up the bumps really well, and just has a nice and refined right now with that acceleration. I want to take the time to talk about the continuously variable transmission. It does have a cvt, you may not have even noticed it, because the shift simulation is actually very convincing in this. It varies the rpms. It also has like a feel to it. As i say, you know like you can almost feel it shift because uh it’s, so convincing.
We do also want to mention the drive trains now one of this 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. Big benefits is that it does come standard with all-wheel drive, so even in a vehicle in this segment, the base trim is going to have all-wheel drive. That’s, a huge benefit. That really i mean some of the competition doesn’t even offer it at all, so that’s, certainly a huge benefit. It’s also worth noting that the new sport mode has or the new sport trim, has several different dual like a dual function x mode.
So it has special snow and off-road dirt and sand modes as well. So that’s. An additional benefit for going for that new sport trim. Now that right there is our auto start, stop system and uh. Also, two days air ball, yeah uh, the auto start stop system. It is kind of rough it’s, definitely not something that you’re going to ignore.
Yes, um! You know it’s. It’s, just a little bit rough. Now 2021 Subaru Crosstrek added it last year to the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek that’s the second year, and i wish they would have worked on refining it a little bit more in the time since, because it’s still kind of rough, and you can defeat It, though you have a button over here, you can defeat it if you want, but just be aware, it will turn itself back on again when you restart the vehicle.
So that’s go be an extra step every time right that off um, but going along with that. That’s, a pretty minor thing uh, but the air ball. We just agree that this cabin is playing yeah slam, dunk um slam. Dunk is just this cabin because this really has very little sacrifices over any other subaru model, and this is the cheapest one.
We will go ahead and talk about the fuel economy, so the 2 liter cvt, so the base engine is going to be rated at 28 city 33, highway 30 combined going for the forester engine, so the sport and limited Trim that’s, going to only drop at one mpg combined, so that’s, really not much of a penalty. For that now, your real penalty comes in. If you go for the manual because that loses 4 mpg over the cvt, but you know you have that choice. If you are looking right and you save money, of course you save 1300.
How much the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Price?
If you choose the manual, so you can put that back in gas. I guess now let’s, discuss the pricing for the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek. You may be curious to see if they you know, raised the price because they’ve added some new features.
New styling and i’m happy to say it only increased 100 this year, so not much of a price price increase so for the base model it’s, going to start at base model $22.245, Premium $23.295, and for the sport is $26.495, but keep in mind that does come standard with the CVY.
