2022 Kia K5 – So, as you probably know, the kia k5 was the replacement for the optima last year and it followed in the aggressive footsteps of the kia stinger and the telly ride before it now a year after the full redesign. We have some small updates on board as well that continue to make this an even stronger product, but with tons of competition out there is this the best midsize sedan for you and your family. Let’s, go ahead and check it out.
What You Have to Get From 2022 Kia K5
So like i was mentioning this was of course, fully redesigned last year and kia went with a very aggressive design that really stands out in the mid-size segment so for 2022. Of course, you’re, not really going to expect any big changes, but i will point out one update: now: let’s start out up here in the front, as you can see, we’ve got the signature tiger, nose. Grille, the lx lxs and ex come with a wide tiger nose with the gray finish.
If you choose the gt line or the gt models, those come with a narrower grille as well as a more aggressive, lower fascia. Now let’s. Take a look at that 2022 update bam. You’ll notice. We’ve got the brand new kia emblem, which is a small thing, but i will say: does make a pretty nice difference in the appearance of the front.
In my opinion now coming over here to our headlights, next, all the models are going to come standard with full led headlights. These are the reflector led headlights, you can get optional, projector led headlights on the gt and the gt line, and then those models will also throw in led fog lamps.
Next up, we have our wheels where we have several different options, depending on your various trim levels. This being the ex gets us, the 18 inch gray finished alloy wheels, which i think look very nice, and the gt line also shares this exact same design.
But it has a black finish for a little bit more contrast and then moving up here to our mirrors. Heating is going to be included as standard equipment, blind, spot monitoring will be included on all but the very base model, and then we also have power folding.
As an option on this ex now here at the side of the 2022 Kia K5, you’re, probably noticing that this looks a little bit different than the typical midsize sedan and that’s, because it has this piece and design element that goes Into the back, which kind of gives this k5 a little bit more of a sport back design like what you see in the bigger brother kia stinger now.
As far as the rear design itself, this is going to be one of the most unique designs for the Entire segment, so, like i mentioned before, we have this chrome piece that wraps all the way around the rear glass area, and then you also have this black piece that kind of makes the rear glass look like.
It goes back a little bit further now dropping down. We have our new 2022 Kia K5 emblem right here in the middle and then we’re, also going to have these really cool full-length tail lights. These are going to be led if you get the gt or gt line or optionally on this ex, and it does have this really cool dash design and then, as far as the rest of the design, we have incandescent turn signals and reverse light.
And then, if we drop down to the bottom, we’re not going to have exposed exhaust on this model. However, you, however, if you get the gt, you will have quad exhaust outlets now as far as your safety systems are concerned.
Of course, this is still a mid-size sedan, so that’s a priority. You’re, going to get three out of four of them standard. So your ford emergency braking auto high beams and lane keeping are going to be standard on the k5. However, you will have to option on the adaptive cruise control on the various different trim levels, but anyway, guys that’s. Gon na sum up the exterior design of this 2022 Kia K5, as you can tell it’s, a pretty stylish mid-sized sedan.
But now let’s, go ahead and check out the inside before we take it out in a spin and before we do all of that, you know what would really make my day if you hit that subscribe button down below. So, on the 2022 kia k5 they are including their smart entry system on all, but the very base lx trim level.
As you can see, it does also have remote start integrated onto the fob, as well as the updated and warm this year. Then you get inside the vehicle i can do is just walk up to it. As you approach the mirrors will electrically fold out, and then you just press the button to unlock all right and taking a look inside of this cabin.
Of course, this was just fully redesigned about 10 months ago, so you’re, not going to see any huge changes to the cabin, but there are a little bit of changes to the details and we’ll, go ahead and start out By talking about your interior, color and material options, the lx and the lx trim levels will come standard with cloth seating.
The gt line with a cloth and leatherette combination seat. This ex trim level with a leatherette seat, and that comes in your choice of black sand or ash and then finally, the top and gt also comes with leatherette seats, but only with black and red accent.
Now, turning over here to your door trim, it is very nicely finished. We have leather covering pretty much the entire thing, including this area above it with the stitching detail. The top part is going to be padded and with the ex trim level, we have some faux wood accenting.
You will have two-person memory, seating optional on the ex and the gt, and then all four windows are one-touch automatic heading down here to your seats. Next, you have the 10-way power adjusting seat with two-way lumbar support on all, but the lx and the lxs, and then like.
I was saying this is a leather rat seat, but i have to admit a pretty convincing, uh imitation leather, very realistic. I, like the perforation and the size of the posters now in typical 2022 Kia K5 fashion. They have done a really good job with making this cabin uh seem pretty upscale for the class so across our upper dash uh.
Only the part above the gauges will be hard touch. All the rest of this is going to be a solid touch plastic, with a stitching detail as we drop down. We have a large piece of this faux wood trim like i was mentioning it does vary depending on which model you get.
So some of them have a faux aluminum. This ex has the faux wood, which i think looks and feels very realistic, since it actually has a texture on it. I definitely like this as we move down. We’re, going to have some soft touch materials through here.
It is going to be hard touch along the console on both sides. We have piano black and everything fits together very nicely now to start it up, just put your foot on the brake and press the standard button. So first things. First, we have to start here with the gauge cluster. As you can see it’s. Got a pretty clean and simple design to it. You have got a 4.2 inch multi-function display in the middle.
This is actually included on every single trim level, so they’re, not offering the full digital setup on this 2022 Kia K5, like they do in some of the other kia products. That being said, you do have all the typical affair of information that you expect to see.
You also do not have the availability of a head up display now coming back to the steering wheel. Of course, we have electric power assisted steering. We have a nice leather, wrapped steering wheel on the gt line and, above of course, with the newest design.
Here and again, the updated emblems right there in the middle. As far as the wheel itself, it is going to be manual tilt and telescoping and heating is offered as an option for the gt line and, above all, right. So as a midsize family sedan, you know we ‘ Ve got to put the storage to the test. Let’s open it up here, looks like we ‘ Ve got a lot of storage in here very nicely. Sized center console quite deep as well, and we do have a covered usb port and our thick stack of coupons here.
They fit inside no problem whatsoever. Don’t even really have to fold them in half and they can even stand upright without touching the top, so that’s very impressive. Now, right in front of that, you’ll notice. We have a little storage cubby. This is actually a wireless phone charging pad, so you push your phone down through there and it just sets up right, and this is included as standard on the ex trim level got your two cup holders.
You have another generously, sized storage area up in the front. Nice rubber lining and then you’ve, got two more usbs and a 12v outlet, so lots of connections and lots of ways to charge your phone now taking a look here at the shifter, we do have the t-shaped shifter.
Of course, pull back for drive up to the left for manual shifting. However, if you want paddles, that is only on the gt model and then heading into reverse, you’ll, find a nice luxury feature here. With this ex trim level uh with the optional package, we have the 360 degree camera system thrown in.
As you can see in 2022 Kia K5, You have got plenty of different angles. You can choose from front and rear parking sensors as well and the mirrors tilt down and in reverse to help. You see the parking lights better. The other models will just come with a traditional backup camera. Now behind that, of course, You have got your electronic parking brake with your brake hold function. You also have your drive motor controller, and then we have our adjustments for the seats.
So heated seats are standard on only the ex trim level and ventilated seats are also standard on the ex trim level. You can get optional heated seats on the gt line or above and you can get optional, ventilated, seats on the gt and then jumping up above that to the main climate controls.
This is going to be a standard dual zone, automatic climate control across every model. As you can see very simple and easy to use large knobs with physical controls down there below it and it’s finished in a nice piano black with high quality buttons, okay and now that brings us next to our audio systems.
So every single model will come standard with a six speaker sound system. However, this model is fully loaded, so we have the 12 speaker, bose premium sound system and we’ll. Give that a sample right now, [, Music, ], so overall sound quality is very good.
Okay, so let’s. Take a look next at our displays here. So just like with many other kia or hyundai products as well. Um You have, got the choice between two different display sizes. The 2022 Kia K5is going to have an 8 inch display standard on every single trim level, including this ex and then optional on the gt line.
Ex and gt will be. This 10.25 inch display that you see right here when you choose this display. This is going to be running the newest version of the kia uvo software with the most up-to-date graphics and performance plus that will also throw in a built-in navigation system. Now i want to go ahead and talk about android, auto and apple car play because uh, just like in some of the past products. If you choose the larger display, you have a wired connection for android, auto and apple carplay.
If you choose the smaller eight inch display, that will actually be the one that gives you the wireless abilities for both of those as we move on up here, you got a manual dimming, mirror standard on every trim level and then up here at the top.
We have a very premium feature, and that is a large panoramic sunroof, which goes all the way back to the second row. This is going to be included as standard on ex and gt and then optional on the gt line. Alrighty guys i’m in the k5’s, rear seat and, of course, this vehicle is very family oriented as with any midsize sedan. So this rear area is very, very important now, as far as the space is concerned, that’s.
What i’m, going to talk about. First, we’re, going to have 35 inches of rear leg, room 37 inches of rear headroom, which let’s, place it behind some of the main competitors like the honda accord and toyota camry. Although to be entirely honest with you, i don’t believe those measurements. Because, behind your seating position i have, i would say, a probably a solid, eight or nine inches, maybe ten inches of rear leg room.
My feet can slide up underneath the seat. So i’m, really not noticing much of a difference between those main 2022 Kia K5 rivals. Now, as far as the features are concerned, though, on this high-end model, we will have the rear vents that’s, going to be on the ex and gt trims.
Then, if we drop down below that, we do have two charging usb ports and that’s, going to be on the gt line and above and then, if we fold down the center armrest, we have cup holders inside. It is worth noting, though, that you do not have heated rear seats as an option now walking up to the cargo area of this 2022 Kia K5.
I think you’re, going to be very impressed because you do have a hands-free smart opening trunk and that’s, going to be really on the vast majority of the 2022 Kia K5 lineup. So it’s, basically like having a power one, especially when you pair it with the dampening now.
As far as the space itself is concerned, back here you’re gonna have 16 cubic feet of space, which is larger than the toyota camry. It’s right on par with that of the hyundai sonata and just a touch less than the accord. So this is a very good amount of space and as far as how they finished it, we do have a carpeting along the floor, and if we lift it up, we will find a spare tire. You do also have seats that fold 60 40 support now over.
Here at your passenger seat, since we do have the ex and the package on it, we are gonna, have a power passenger seat and then, if we open up the glove box, this is a pretty good size, glove box. It looks to be about the same as my hyundai elantra.
So when you throw the coupons in there, you’re, really not going to have any issues, but it could be a little bit larger and as far as the sun visor, this is a really large sun visor. We have a light up top a large mirror and we can also detach and extend okay, so driving down the road here with this 2022 Kia K5.
So this is the extra model like we’ve mentioned before, meaning that it’s got the same engine as the vast majority of the trim levels, which is your 1.6 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine it’s, going to be making 180 horsepower 195 pound-feet of torque, which are very much class competitive numbers.
As far as like from behind the wheel, 2022 Kia K5 you know feels plenty quick, definitely right in line with what the majority of the competition has. This model comes, like i said, standard with the 1.6 liter, whereas its sibling mate, the hyundai sonata, does have a lower power.
Naturally, aspirated four cylinder and the thing about this engine as you’ll notice, as we throughout this drive, is it’s, uh, pretty quiet and refined like especially compared to something like a toy, the camry, or something like that.
This engine? Certainly just has a quiet refinement to it so that you’re, not going to get an a naturally aspirated two and a half liter. Now, of course, the big news that you’re, probably curious about is the gt model. That’s gonna have that big, daddy two and a half liter turbo engine um, and that’s. Gon na be making 290 horsepower 311 pound-feet of torque. So that is a lot of power. Um certainly going to be the performance in the 2022 Kia K5 lineup.
Now let’s, go ahead and talk about the transmission for a second uh. What we have on board is an eight-speed automatic, just like with uh many different of hyundai and kia products. Uh very good transmission, nice smooth shifting fast responding when you put your foot down uh.
You know this is a transmission that i really never have any complaints about. It’s, just uh a good one yeah. Now, if you do get the gt, that’s, going to get you in the eight speed dual clutch transmission, so i have a little bit faster shifts.
I imagine, and we’ve tested that out in a few of the other hyundai kia products and it’s, a good transmission right and there’s, also a lot of competitors to this vehicle that has continuously variable transmissions. But since we’re just cruising down the highway, i want to talk about this. That’s, where this 2022 Kia K5 really shines is going to be just highway. Cruising um, i mean i’m, just very, very comfortable. This is a midsize sedan first and foremost, and i mean the seats are comfortable.
The ride quality is just really really solid and this cabin seems super quiet. So i’m gonna get a sound level reading, so we can actually compare to the rivals incredible wow. 53.7. I think that may be one of the lowest readings we’ve ever gotten on this strip of road honestly, so that just goes to show you.
The k5 is very uh, very much kind of going for a more luxurious feel on inside this cabin yeah. It just seems really really quiet in here, even with rain, on the outside [ Music, ], all righty. So now let’s, go ahead and discuss the airborne slam.
Do keep in mind, though, that sometimes that will add extra equipment with the all-wheel drive uh system. It will just have more equipment with it. Now, as far as the fuel economy is concerned, for this the 1.6 liter front drive is going to be rated at 29 38 32 combined um. If, for whatever reason you get the upper end trims as 31. and then, if you go for all-wheel drive that’s, going to be reduced down to 28 miles of gallons or around 3 to 4 miles a gallon less for the all-wheel drive system.
How much the 2022 Kia K5 Price?
We don’t have a head up display. We’re missing. The auto dimming mirror there’s. Just a few little uh features that you know just kind of missing now. This does come at a lower price point than some of the competitions, but they could stand to maybe add an sx trim level to this, which throws in every goodie that you could possibly want yeah now, as far as the slam dunk, though that goes in right Into what he was saying, just the pricing of it.
This thing has an incredible incredible value on it fully loaded. We’re, looking at a little over thirty four thousand dollars for this one, and i mean the main competition when you get to the highest in trim levels, they’re, pushing over 40 000.
So you’re. Looking at very, very significant savings and it’s really that way among all the different trim levels right, even the performance gt does not cost more than this yeah and since we’re spending a little bit of time. Talking about the pricing that gt model is going to be 30 0590 um and the lx is going to be 23 590., so all the other ones are going to fall in between that range. Now all wheel drive will add about two to three thousand dollars, depending on the trim level that you added on uh.
So keep that in mind – and it is worth noting that the all-wheel drive is only available on the gt line trim and the lx trim it’s not available on some of the other models like this ex. So, like we said at the beginning, there really is a lot of competition in this midsize segment, and this 2022 Kia K5 still manages to stand out.
Even among the strong competition you’ve got so much style. You have a lot of luxury and really excellent equipment and value on board. So all in all this is definitely a very strong mid-sized offering that you should certainly check out well guys.
