They produced a larger on the inside and the outside, and they also significantly reduce the price of this thing now for 2020. What You Have to Get From 2020 Volkswagen Passat
However, Volkswagen has changed the exterior tremendously and altered the interior ever so slightly. The big question we want to insert if you guys are looking for a mainstream family sedan is the 2020 Volkswagen Passat worth? Obviously, in other parts of the world, there is an all-new version of the Passat that rides on the MQB platform. It has an 8-speed automatic. It has a multitude of engines available. It has a digital cockpit display with a more extensive infotainment system.
In America, 2020 Volkswagen Passat sales have tanked in fact in 2019 Volkswagen managed to sell just under 15,000 units, annually just under 15,000 units. To put that into perspective the mazda6 outsold this car and the six is also an incredibly low volume car. So the fact that VW barely sold any of these kind of shows you why they didn’t want to put too much money into an all-new version.
This current generation North American Passat debuted back in 2012 and when you look at the design of the 2020 VW actually says that they changed a lot of body panels. And this 2020 version does look like an improvement over the pre-recession models. So, when this generation 2020 Volkswagen Passat came out in 2012 its design was very clean but also very bland. So as you can see Volkswagen is basically taking the same existing platform which is a different platform versus the rest of Europe. Just changing up the front-end ever so slightly it has the newer Volkswagen grill they also made full LED headlights.

As standard equipment although you don’t get an LED turn signal just an incandescent and they also took away the fog lights now compared to the pre refreshed version. Remember this is based off of the North American market 2020 Volkswagen Passat. We think the design is still equally bland although we like how VW made little LED headlights as standard. Really this is a very safe family sedan.
You can buy it stretches around 193 inches long. That’s about an inch longer than the current Camry and the current Accord. So this is still a very big vehicle which gives you a large back seat in the back seat or in the rear area. On this SEL model this is the top-of-the-line version these are an 18-inch wheel wrapped in two 35-45 with tires. these tires I’m not entirely sure we’ve ever heard of this brand GTI it seems like a knockoff like weird brand that we’ve never heard of regardless. The wheels look pretty much I have plenty of sidewall it’s about what we expected a mainstream car it’s going to ensure that you have a smooth ride quality and ensure that the tires aren’t too expensive to replace.
Overall shape of this car the silhouette still looks like the previous generation. Obviously, it’s going to look a little bit dated when you first look at this car. It’s still a handsome looking car don’t get us wrong now the interior of the 2020 Volkswagen Passat when this generation or when the 2012 model debuted was known for its very spacious cabin. It didn’t really have too much of the cost-cutting that we found in the 2011 Jetta. This 2020 Volkswagen Passat actually did get a few changes here and there.
If you thought the outside of the 2020 Volkswagen Passat didn’t look that much different? taking a look at the interior of this refresh model will make you think I’ve taken a trip back to 2010. There are slight changes in here but once you get inside this vehicle and shut the door the door has a relatively solid sounding. Starting the car up you can see the gauges they look like they’ve been lifted off of a Volkswagen GLI. Which the one without the digital cockpit display. They’re a very basic looking gauge display especially with that really small digital helper screen in the center.
The rest of this cabin VW says that they’ve made some changes to the dash design the vents look a little bit different. This fake wood isn’t convincing anybody and you have this teeny tiny 6.3-inch infotainment system which does at least include Android auto and apple CarPlay. But come on Volkswagen this screen this is your biggest sedan all of our town is now their flagship.
It’s very disappointing to see a screen like that especially when you have the new Jetta that has a much larger display with a digital cockpit. You know look of the instrument panel. This is pretty disappointing the rest of this layout you can see hasn’t really changed you have dual zone climate control.
You have a volume knob at a tuning knob over here you have an SD card slot therefore the embedded GPS you can see there’s the Volkswagen system which you know it’s very much taking me back to it’s a very old system. This is going to be you know annoying a lot of your tech files out there putting the car into reverse. This car also has backup camera is pretty basic at least it includes parking sensors but no trajectory, which kind of surprised us that they didn’t include that.

the one bright spot about the 2020 Volkswagen Passat is back. In 2012 it had one of the largest back seats in the segment today in 2020. It still has a gigantic boxy you’re looking at around thirty-nine and a half inches of legroom back there.
That is more than what you’re gonna get in something like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry Nissan Altima and Mazda 6. It does include three level heated seats which actually surprised us. You have two USB ports which we imagine they added for 2020.
Specification
The previous generation or the pre refreshed 2020 Volkswagen Passat offered a choice of like three different engines. They actually offered the turbo diesel in this car which offered a lot of mpg. Unfortunately, when the diesel gate emissions scandal kick took place, that Passat went away and that was the one that gave you an incredible-incredible amount of range. We have you also got rid of the 3.6-liter V6 engine.
We’re just left with this 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder which is relatively competitive for the class. And actually, did get more torque this year. So there was a time where Volkswagen used to offer like three different powertrains on this Passat. Because of the diesel gate scandal Volkswagen has had to simplify things considerably for this new version put little slots under the hood.
You’ve got just one engine choice it’s the company’s 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder part of their TSI engine family. It doesn’t make the same numbers that you get in a GTI for example but they did increase the power this year. It makes 174 horsepower 206 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers are pretty much average it actually has a little bit more torque than most of the competition is slightly less horsepower. It all goes out through a six-speed conventional automatic transmission.
That’s right a 6-speed auto versus like the Jetta which gets an 8-speed automatic. All Passat are only front-wheel drive you guys are looking for a manual that has been discontinued. The vr6 engine also has been discontinued VW offered like a Passat GT. At one point but again that has all been discontinued fuel economy is decent it’s rated at 23 city, 34 highways, and as this one sits it weighs a little over 3400 pounds.

So, for a car that only has 174 horsepower paired with a 6-speed automatic this is your only engine option. Which is a far cry purses you know the dual clutches and the manuals that VW used to offer on the Passat they’ve really simplified it this powertrain is pretty much adequate for most drivers.
